In the background is the gym building at Kapaa High School. This was one of the shelters open to the public. This shot was taken as the storm approached. The parking lot is beginning to fill up with visitors cars. Eventually, over 400 tourists were taking shelter in this building. Big mistake. The gym lost its' roof during the storm. Visitors had to crawl to other buildings while winds outside exceeded 150 mph.
This shot was taken from our condo balcony about 2 pm. At that time, winds were approaching 100 mph.
