The 4X4 Tour continued....
The historic Coco Palms Resort One of the first resorts in Hawaii, the Coco Palms reeks of history. Used as a location for over a dozen features, the resort is most famous for its' continuing connection to Elvis. The primary location for his biggest hit, Blue Hawaii, Elvis would come back and visit, or stay there while making other Hawaiian features. He even brought Priscilla and baby Lisa Marie with him on one trip. We are the only people allowed to tour the grounds of this fascinating place, which is why we include it in both our 4X4 and Land Tours. The Coco Palms has been closed and fenced off since Hurricane Iniki devastated it in 1992. Other features filmed on the grounds include Pagan Love Song, Miss Sadie Thompson, Fantasy Island, Voodoo Island, South Pacific, Deathmoon and Bird of Paradise with Debra Paget.
On the left, the famous lagoon, originally the Queen's fishing pond. This was featured in two wedding scenes, the first from Blue Hawaii, the second from Fantasy Island. On the right is the wedding chapel originally built for the Rita Hayworth film, Miss Sadie Thompson, then left on the grounds.
You can still get married on the grounds of the Coco Palms. Above is Larry Rivera on the wedding raft used in Blue Hawaii. Larry has a breathtaking wedding package to help make that wedding or vow renewal very special. On the right is Elvis's bungalow. He both stayed here and filmed part of Blue Hawaii in this bungalow. Potential new owners of the resort have promised to keep the bungalow intact. and we just keep going...... Opaekaa Falls Ok, this place is really easy to get to, but we are so close when we leave Coco Palms, we just have to show it to you and some of the things filmed there. We will also cross the highway and look down on the beautiful Wailua River, another very busy movie site and also Kamokila Village, used as the African Village in Outbreak.
This photo was taken on a day when the falls was running heavy from a recent rain. It makes a stunning photo anytime!
