Interview with a Velociraptor

9/13

The sign leads the way to the main base camp.

A potentially costly disaster hit base today. See the following photos for the story plus tons of pictures of base camp!! Also, I was informed today Universal has seen the pictures all over the net of the boat, don't seem too happy about it and have put out orders that no digital cameras are allowed anywhere near base camp or sets. I stood and chatted with a security guard for about 10 minutes this afternoon, digital camera slung over my shoulder. Hmmmm. I will tell you that if a security guard asks me to leave, I will. They all look like they play for the Oakland Raiders. The only fight I ever lost was when I tripped running around the corner!

I took this photo the other day of another barge, this one for the lights. It was made on top of a small zodiac boat.

Here is the same barge today, at least ten guys frantically working on it. Why?

Because today, about noon, they had loaded it with lighting equipment, getting ready to depart to the filming site, and Whooooosh!, over it went, dumping about $100,000 worth of lighting gear and crew into the river. Chaos took over. Fortunately, it was close to the dock, the water only about 8 feet deep. See the following photos as they attempt to dry the equipment.

Just some of the gear that was on that barge. Imagine fishing this stuff out of the water.

There are two sections to the base camp. This is dockside, where gear and people are loaded on boats to go up the river.

More gear. I counted at least 40 trucks and Matson containers in the area.

More lighting gear. Word is, if it doesn't dry off or isn't operable by tomorrow's 5am call, they may not be able to shoot tomorrow. Some crew is staying all night working on it, hoping to have it ready.

This is the main base camp where most of the transportation, semi's and dressing trailers are. There was not near enough room at either site for everything, so across the highway at the now closed Coco Palms Resort, another string of trucks and trailers is being kept.(below)
